Safety engineering

Safety engineering / Fraunhofer IKS

To meet the high safety demands that result from the increasingly complex electronics in road vehicles and industrial facilities, the Fraunhofer Institute for Cognitive Systems IKS is conducting research in the area of safety engineering.

The aim of safety engineering is to guarantee and improve the safety of systems through analyses and suitable measures. The desired safety levels can be measured in terms of both individual safety requirements and DIN or ISO standards. Depending on the production or work environment, safety certification may be needed to comply with legal requirements.

Important methods that are used in safety engineering include:

  • Safety by design
  • Adaptive safety
  • Safety engineering in real time
