Safety Season at Fraunhofer IKS
Safety will be the topic of focus at Fraunhofer IKS from September to November. Three events with different focal points will address the topic of safety in connection with complex software systems in various industries, primarily autonomous cognitive systems.

Safety Season will kick off at SafeComp, which will take place on September 6–9, 2022, at Garching near Munich. This year, the key theme of the International Conference on Computer Safety, Reliability and Security will be “New frontiers of safety assurance.” The event will focus on the development, evaluation, operation and maintenance of safety-related and safety-critical applications.

The conference will shine a spotlight on intersectoral
scientific issues. Contributions by representatives from international universities, research organizations and businesses will be on the program. The conference will be co-chaired by Prof. Mario Trapp, Institute Director of the Fraunhofer Institute for Cognitive Systems IKS, and Prof. Francesca Saglietti, Chair of Software Engineering at Friedrich-Alexander-Universität Erlangen-Nürnberg.
In cooperation with SICK, which manufactures sensors for factory, logistics and automation technology, Fraunhofer IKS will host Beyond Safety. Forum@SICK. The forum will take place on October 11, 2022, in Waldkirch-Buchholz near Freiburg and online via Webex. Aspects of safety in industrial processing and the automation environment will be in the spotlight.

Mario Trapp, Executive Director of Fraunhofer IKS, will give a talk on the topic of “Safety challenges by cognitive systems.” Present and future issues that go beyond current security measures will be up for discussion. Trapp will also outline the current research strategies to resolve these issues as well as strategies that are on the verge of being put into practice.
On November 8–9, 2022, Fraunhofer IKS will host Safetronic for the second time. The international specialist conference will be geared towards the vehicle industry under the tagline “Holistic safety for road vehicles.” On the conference program are practical updates on trends and developments, such as
- norms and standards
- innovative approaches to development
- holistic safety concepts for autonomous driving.

The conference will be co-chaired by Mario Trapp and Simon Fürst, Cooperation Management Automated Driving at the BMW Group, Munich. Safetronic will take place at the Filderhalle in Stuttgart-Leinfelden on November 8–9, 2022.
