More than 30 institutes are pooling their cross-industry expertise in the Fraunhofer Big Data and Artificial Intelligence Alliance. The Fraunhofer Institute for Cognitive Systems IKS recently became one of them. "Fraunhofer IKS has joined the Big Data and Artificial Intelligence Alliance to be part of an innovative community", says Institute Director Prof. Dr. Mario Trapp. "!With our Safe Intelligence research focus, we are complementing the Alliance's broad range of services: in many industries, added value can only be created if the possibilities of artificial intelligence (AI) can be reconciled with the highest quality standards. And this is precisely the focus of our research at Fraunhofer IKS."

Innovation acceleration in AI is particularly high

The Fraunhofer Big Data and Artificial Intelligence Alliance sees itself as a central point of contact and first point of contact for all customer inquiries on the topics of digitalization, data strategies, artificial intelligence, machine learning, data science and big data from German-speaking countries. It focuses on the business areas of Production & Industry 4.0, Logistics & Mobility, Life Sciences & Health Care, Energy & Environment, Security and Business & Finance.

“There is hardly any other field of innovation that is progressing at such an accelerated pace as AI,” explains Trapp. "Through the exchange and cooperation within the alliance, we can pool our expertise, create synergies and thus work at a top international level for the benefit of our customers."

The Fraunhofer Big Data and Artificial Intelligence Alliance supports companies as an independent and experienced partner along the entire process chain – from strategy development, feasibility studies and prototypes to the effective roll-out of specific AI applications. Data security and data sovereignty for companies are a high priority.

Start in Metzingen

At the beginning of July, Fraunhofer IKS took part in the in-house exhibition of IT system house Advanced Unibyte (AU) in Metzingen in the German state of Baden-Württemberg. Researchers presented topics from the field of Industrial Sensing Systems, e.g. dependable person recognition and flexible AI-based quality inspection. Further events are being planned.

Institute Director Mario Trapp: "I am looking forward to working with the Fraunhofer Alliance. Thanks to the alliance's comprehensive expertise, our partners and customers not only have access to our skills, but also to the combined AI expertise of the Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft."
