Research Engineer

Dr. Lakshay Khurana studied electronics and communication engineering in India and neuroscience at the University of Freiburg. For his Ph.D. at the University of Göttingen, he developed computer simulations of a next-generation neuroprosthetic device, using them to identify workable design parameters and to test early on whether a planned implant could meet the safety and regulatory constraints of real clinical use.

He was closely involved with a MedTech spin-off from his research group throughout, and after completing his Ph.D. in 2024 took on project management tasks there, working across engineers, biologists, clinicians, and quality and regulatory managers. Since 2026, he has been at the Fraunhofer Institute for Cognitive Systems IKS in the Trustworthy Digital Health department, where he leads several healthcare projects focused on the trustworthiness and assurance of AI systems in clinical use.
